Manufacturing Plant

A manufacturing plant required a simple system to monitor environmental hazardous areas within the plant. The two areas which were of concern, Recycling Room and the Waste Water Treatment Room.

The company was concerned if an incident occurred in these rooms it may cause a hazard to the local environment. The company required a simple solution that informed them of any pending issues with the waste material being handled in the two rooms.

AMEREX Integrated Solution

The two rooms had different requirements. The recycling room recycles Aluminum, Brass and Steel which are contaminated with used oil and requires monitoring of mainly float switches and an oil tank level. The waste water treatment room required five tank levels and four float switches. AMEREX Integrated conducted a site survey of the two areas and decided the best solution for this situation was to install two site controllers, one per room. The Recycling Room equipment requirements were for 4 off 3 x Digital inputs measuring the recycling machines oil sump level and 1 off 1 x analogue input and 3 x digital Inputs measuring Used oil tank level (analogue) and external oil sump levels.

The Waste Water Treatment Room equipment requirements were for 3 off 2 analogue input and 4 digital inputs measuring five waste water tanks and various float switches.

Any alerts from either of the two rooms, an e-mail is transmitted to the appropriate group of employees (on and off site) alerting them to a possible incident. At the same time a graphical display (pop up window) in AIMs (AMEREX Incident management system) shows the status of each room and is updated every minute. Thus providing a virtual ‘live’ picture of the situation on site.

The Results

The client has now the ability of pre-empting potential environmental hazards and act upon information received from the installed equipment. Thus saving any clean-up costs (and possible legal action against the company) for damage to the local environment after an accidental spill.
